Steven Flores, MA, MFA

Steven holds a BA in Philosophy and English from The University of Iowa, an MA in the Humanities from The University of Chicago, and an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He has taught in the English Departments at UW-Madison and Madison College. Prior to joining Mansfield Hall full-time, Steven was the Writing Specialist at Mansfield Hall as well as Lecturer in English at UW-Baraboo. Steven is also an advisor at Madison College. Outside of academia, Steven has years of experience working as a direct care provider for teens with developmental disorders, and has worked in a supported community living facility for adults diagnosed with mental illness. Steven’s professional experience–both inside and outside of the classroom–inform his empathetic, individualized, and holistic approach to advocating for students’ academic success while ensuring that students acquire the skills to reach their academic goals independently.

Outside of work, Steven a novelist and short story writer who is currently revising his first novel. His short fiction appears in The Iowa Review, where it was nominated for a Pushcart Prize. He spends his free time reading, cycling, swimming, and traveling.MA
