Support for students with Asperger’s in college<\/strong> is not just about providing academic accommodations\u2014it’s about creating a comprehensive and inclusive environment where diverse learners can thrive. As more students with Asperger\u2019s Syndrome pursue higher education, it\u2019s clear that traditional college support systems aren\u2019t always enough. But before we go any further we should take a moment to recognize that Asperger’s Syndrome is no-longer a recognized diagnosis, and the criteria which formally led to an Asperger’s diagnosis was instead wrapped up into Autism Spectrum Disorder-Level I (ASD-I) with the DSM-5. That being said, we also recognize that the neurodiverse community is a diverse collection of individuals – who may or may not have a diagnosis or rely on the DSM-5 to describe their particular constellation of strengths and challenges – and some individuals still refer to their diagnosis using the term Asperger’s, or even Aspie. The scope of this blog is not to endorse or differentiate between one or the other – but simply to provide resources for individuals who still identify using the Asperger’s diagnosis.
