Affording College
While it is certainly true that the cost of college has risen in recent years, the reality is that the return on that investment remains strong. Additionally, college continues to offer young people an ideal environment in which to grow, individuate, and make a successful transition to greater independence.
There are numerous scholarships, grants, and financial aid opportunities to help families in both affording college and the costs of college support programs.
We encourages families to explore these options, as well as provide this link to guidance on the use of 529 College Savings Funds and other tax-advantaged options.

Please Note: Options changes quickly, and while we are committed to helping families afford Mansfield Hall we cannot guarantee the reliability of each of the following links. State and Federal Grant Funding Sources
Federal Pell Grant
This grant is based on your family’s income and assets. Annual awards range from $1,176 to $5,550. The student must meet all eligibility requirements. The amount of the grant is divided equally among the semesters attended. To apply, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant
This grant is awarded to students entering in the fall, with exceptional financial need. The annual award is $2,000. The student must meet all eligibility requirements. To apply, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Vocational Rehabilitation Grants
Many state governments provide funds through vocational rehabilitation grants for people with disabilities pursuing postsecondary education. The amount of the grant varies by state, and can be received for any semester. Please contact your state’s Vocational Rehabilitation Center for additional information and to apply.

Living it up in Mockaritiaville on this fine Friday!
This week our Burlington students wrapped up their finals and bid Spring semester adieu.
Madison students enjoyed mocktails for study hour and learned about `The Art of Gong Fu Cha` or `the art of tea` - which is the practice of traditional Chinese tea pouring.
Students in Eugene celebrated May 4th in style with an incredible cake created by chef Sam.

And for many college students (especially when everything is new and stressful), it can feel overwhelming to:

• follow up when it matters
If that feels hard, it’s not a personal failure- it’s something you learn with practice and support.

What’s one situation where self-advocacy feels hardest for you?
An incredibly good week all around, with President, Jasmine Lamb and Madison Executive Director, Kirstin Bowes making a guest appearance in Eugene for some quality time with staff and students. Burlington students are soaring towards the end of the semester. And our Madison students are enjoying the finer things in life- good weather, a trip to the museum, and a little open mic maddness.
Ah Madison, the Paris of the Midwest- wait… that doesn’t seem right… (fun fact: Detroit, MI is actually thought of as the Paris of the Midwest due to its colonial heritage and architectural influence!).

Feeling overwhelmed in college- but not sure why? you’re not alone.
The key isn’t just “pushing through”, it’s learning to recognize what’s happening before you hit that wall, and having systems to reset.
That might look like:
• stepping outside for a walk
• box breathing between classes
• putting on a guided meditation
• reaching out to someone you trust

Excellent week across the board!
People Ops team member Jo touched down in Madison, receiving a warm welcome with coffee and a trip to see the Capitol building. VP of Program Ops Hayley grounded herself and took in the beauty of the Statehouse. Pancakes were served, and Burlington student Nikhil took the stage to perform with his choir.
A great week to zoom out and back in- and reflect on all the things we have to be grateful for!
