What Is A Week In The Life Of A College Student Like?

First of all, it’s not like high school – your daily schedule is not going to be the same every day, day after day – although we can help you find a rhythm that works well for you.

Mansfield Hall students are all going to college, so the first thing that goes onto your schedule are your classes. Our students typically start out with 3 classes in the fall term, and are welcome to add classes in subsequent terms if they feel like they can handle the course load.

In addition to your college classes, which you will select from the college’s course catalog and will be taking at one of the local schools, we also help schedule in study time, some time with Academic Coaches, time with your Academic Director (for one-on-one planning meetings). This is all to help you plan for academic success as a college student.

You will also have some other 1-1 meetings throughout the week, including time with your Director of Student Life, your Life Skills Coach, and possibly even a meeting with the Community Outreach Director, who will be helping you choose your own path for community service and connecting with the larger community.

There are also some things going on at The Hall, like a Social Learning Seminar, culinary instruction, apartment and all-community meetings, and meals. Don’t forget the meals!

Each of our Halls includes a Chef, and all meals are included. You will also have access to your own kitchen and food, so you can join us, cook for yourself, go out to dinner with friends – all in the same day. Or just enjoy the amazing food our chefs provide daily.

Even More College Than College

Classes, studying, and eating are all pretty important, but there is a lot more to college, and Mansfield Hall, than just working on homework and eating amazing food.

Life at The Hall also means being a part of a vibrant, active, engaged living and learning community. There is always something cool going on at The Hall – whether that’s a D&D Campaign, an open mic night, an arts workshop, a Writer’s Club, a movie night, attending an on-campus lecture or sporting event, a hike with friends, a thrifting trip, or…. whatever you are interested in adding to the list!

Our students are actively engaged in a variety of afternoon, evening, and weekend pursuits and the challenge is not finding something to do – it is picking which of the amazing options you can fit into your busy schedule.

In addition to life at The Hall our students are also actively engaged on their college campus. Whether matriculated or non-matriculated, students have full access to campus clubs, organizations, and activities. Our students often build strong friendships with college students not associated with The Hall, and so you effectively have three concentric social circles – The Hall, The College, and The College Town. Of all the things available, “Being Bored” just is not one of them!

With everything going on one of the challenges is finding the right balance between school work, social time, pursuing your own interests, relaxing, and down time. In fact, helping students learn how to balance all of these options is exactly what we are here to do, since self monitoring and self management are among the skills Mansfield Hall students are gaining as a part of life at The Hall.

Are you ready to learn more about how Mansfield Hall can augment and amplify your college experience? Let’s start the conversation today – reach out to our Admissions Team to learn more about how Mansfield Hall can help put even more college (and college success) into your college experience.

OUR GUIDING PRINCIPLES:

MANSFIELD HALL BELIEVES

  • A safe, supportive, and diverse community is the best foundation for our college students to transition into young adulthood.
  • Developing meaningful, positive relationships with students in which we demonstrate our authentic enjoyment of and faith in them creates the optimal conditions for personal, social and intellectual growth and resiliency.
  • Listening closely to students and inviting them into a collaborative planning process, in which we help them identify and meet their own goals, allows for increased mastery of academic and life skills and an empowering experience of autonomy and agency.
  • Appropriate academic and social support will allow students with diverse learning needs to excel in a collegiate environment.
  • Providing a successful and positive collegiate experience to students who would not otherwise have access to this offers them greater life opportunity and creates a richer society.
  • Partnering with parents to support their child’s growth and their own transition into the new role of parenting young adults is key to ongoing healthy family relationships.
  • Building interdependence and connection with peers and community members increases students’ capacity to transition to independent young adults.
  • Encouraging our staff to develop their capacity for self-reflection and pursue professional and personal learning goals increases our effectiveness and joy in the work we do with students.
  • Evidence-based research enhances our ability to work effectively with our community and should inform our strategies and models for supporting students.
  • Creating value, meaning, and community for students, parents, staff and our broader collegiate and local communities enriches our relationships and reflects our mission and vision.
